Transforming a split level 2-storey home built circa 1960 into an elegant home for a busy family, gave the existing property a new lease of life. The existing property had a double garage and self-contained flat with two bedrooms on the ground floor and three bedrooms and two living areas on the first floor with a deck. Located adjacent to a beach reserve with expansive views, the home was destined for something great, and Davis’ dedication and design mastery made sure of that.
The original footprint was retained, but a reconfiguration of the existing rooms was a fundamental step to maximise the beautiful views, and a new stairwell was installed to link the ground and first floor. The existing lounge became the master bedroom and a new lounge was situated where an existing bedroom once was.
The home was reclad in timber weather boards and painted white to complement the ocean environment, imbuing it with a timeless feel; chosen colours were three shades of white to give the home a light feeling to add to the coastal feel. A prominent entry was created with a gable roof and a new gable was constructed to the rear of the house and extended as an alfresco roof.
“The end result has been dramatic and has the appearance of a new house. It is hard to see what was there originally,” Davis comments of the extraordinary transformation. “I enjoy the challenge of designing houses that stand the test of time and don’t date. I work a lot on intuition and produce designs clients want.
“We have many remarks from clients saying there is nothing they would change after living in our completed homes – it’s very satisfying to get that feedback. I work closely with clients to ensure the budget is adhered to without compromising their dreams.”
