Bay of Plenty & Waikato Winners add

The Bay of Plenty and the Waikato regional award winners were announced on Saturday for the prestigious 2014 ADNZ | Resene Architectural Design Awards.

In the Bay of Plenty, three regional awards were given to two Bay of Plenty designers. The award winners were Richard Hale of Insight Architecture for Mouldey Residence and Darryl Church of Darryl Church Architecture Ltd for the Redwood Visitors Centre Public Toilets. Two highly commended awards were awarded to Turner Residence by Jason Macdonald of JMAC Architectural Design Ltd and House on Hazel by Robin Baillie of Baillie Architecture Ltd.

ADNZ General Manager Astrid Andersen said that entries from the Bay of Plenty region are getting stronger and more exciting every year.

"All you have to do is take a look at the wonderful public toilets designed by Darryl Church and you can see the flair these Bay of Plenty designers have. To turn such a mundane structure into a piece of art is delightful to see".

In the Waikato, ADNZ celebrated the success of two winning Waikato designers. The award winners were Tane Cox of Red Architecture for his design Modern Barn Form and Kris Wilson of Design House Architecture Ltd for the Norton House.

In addition Richard Hale of Insight Architecture received a highly commended award for the Buchan Residence.

Judges were wowed by all the entries from the Waikato region, saying that Tane Cox's Modern Barn Form was "a clever and economical design" and that Kris Wilson's genius Norton House was a "bold and elegant design".
