After a month of award ceremonies, the 2014 Regional ADNZ | Resene Architectural Design Awards came to a close over the weekend with the celebration of the Wellington, Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay and Taranaki/Wanganui/Manawatu Design Award function in Palmerston North.

It is now only a few short months before the 2014 National ADNZ | Resene Architectural Design Awards will be held in the Bay of Islands on the 26 September and the prized Supreme Award Winner will be announced.

After a big weekend of award ceremonies, there were sure to be some stand out entries.

In the Wellington region, Otoparae by Tushka Glintmeyer and Nathan Rooney of Space Architecture Studio took out three awards including the Residential Alterations and Additions Architectural Design Award, the Residential Interiors Architectural Design Award and the Resene Colour in Design Award.

Judges were wowed by their entry saying that the modest alteration of a suburban house resulted in a welcoming entry, generous family living spaces and a well-appointed kitchen and bathroom.

For the Taranaki/Wanganui/Manawatu region an intriguing commercial design took out two design awards including the Resene Colour in Design Award. Humphries Construction Office & Workshop by Matthew Janes of Pak Design was described by judges as a playful and sometimes quirky building which showcases the abilities of its construction company owner.

ADNZ General Manager, Astrid Andersen, said that all regions demonstrated a great deal of skill and an aspiring level of thoughtful design.

"As a whole, we are consistently impressed by the creativity and provocativeness of our members. They face the challenges of design head on and come back with amazing concepts that astound and impress."
